Routine Traffic Stop Yields 136 Pounds of Pot

— Official News Release, ND Highway Patrol —

BISMARCK, N.D. – On Sunday at approximately 1:00 p.m., a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper stopped a Hyandai Elantra, bearing Idaho license plates, east of Steele on I-94 for a traffic violation.

While speaking to the occupants, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity. A search was performed revealing 136 pounds of marijuana. Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody and transported to the Burleigh County Detention Center. The driver was 22-year-old Andrew Xiong and the passenger was 33-year-old Jerry Yang, both from Sacramento, California.The Kidder County Sherriff’s Department and the local drug task force assisted.
