Roosevelt Park Zoo staff are down in the dumps. Here’s the story per their Facebook page:
The Roosevelt Park Zoo staff are mourning the loss of the female otter, “Cinnamon”. The female otter arrived May 6th into quarantine from Buttonwood Park Zoo. Veterinary staff use a quarantine period, usually 30-60 days depending on species, to evaluate the animal for signs of disease and allow the animal time to adjust to their new surroundings before introduction to the zoo collection. Cinnamon was to be released onto exhibit June 6th, but became unexpectedly and severely ill on May 30th. Veterinary and keeper staff worked late into Saturday night to stabilize Cinnamon, who ultimately passed away despite treatment. A necropsy was performed and results are expected in a few weeks. We thank the public for their support during this difficult time.
