The Minot Area Chamber EDC is the City of Minot’s primary economic development arm, and as such, they benefit from more than $600,000 in annual public funding. This is a relatively new arrangement as the City’s economic development efforts were previously split between the former Minot Area Chamber and Minot Area Development Corporation.
Early in 2021, the two organizations merged, and since that time, the City has been reworking its contracts and accountability processes for the new organization. At last night’s City Council meeting, the City Council meeting the new contract was presented for Council approval. The item generated some discussion.
At the core of the issue, Councilmembers Evans and Pitner indicated a desire to see MACEDC contract performance results prior to allocating future funding. The full item and discussion can be viewed below. Ultimately, the Council approved the 2023 contract with reporting requested to take place in July and January.
