One Dead, Another Seriously Injured in Highway 23 Collision

A fatal crash occurred on Highway 23 near mile marker 31, approximately 16 miles west of New Town, North Dakota, on October 28, 2024, at around 8:13 AM CT. The collision involved a 2017 Ford F-250 and a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck. Road and weather conditions were clear and dry at the time of the incident.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the Ford F-250, driven by a 29-year-old male from Las Vegas, crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the Freightliner. The Ford driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, a 47-year-old male from Sioux Falls, suffered serious injuries and was initially transported to McKenzie County Health in Watford City before being flown to another facility.

Highway 23 was closed for approximately four hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
