North Dakota ag-related projects including Bismarck, Mandan businesses get state funding

BISMARCK, N.D. – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awards for three projects. The awards totaling $395,215 were approved at the APUC quarterly meeting Feb. 27 in Bismarck.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products which support the development of concepts and products that support our rural communities and agriculture operations. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

The following received approval:

PHAT Brothers Bakery Inc. DBA Tatanka Sky was awarded $150,000 to establish a facility for bison hide and skull repurposing.

Third Day Family Farms was awarded $150,000 to increase winter tulip production and expand agritourism.

NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center was awarded $ 95,215 to research the effectiveness of North Dakota coproducts in finishing steer diets while analyzing nitrogen excretion.

APUC will hold its next grant application hearing on May 28-29, 2025, in Minot. Applications for the next meeting must be received by April 1, 2025.
