Minot Police Recover Stolen Vehicle and Purse, Arrest Suspect

On December 16, 2024, at approximately 3:21 p.m., the Minot Police Department responded to a report of a stolen purse at a business in southwest Minot. The incident later escalated to the theft of a vehicle.

The victim initially reported her purse stolen from her place of employment. Shortly after, she discovered that her vehicle had also been taken. Using a tracking application, authorities located the stolen vehicle at the Flying J Truck Stop.

Officers from the Minot Police Department, in collaboration with the Ward County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the location. The stolen vehicle was found with Dylan William Nelson, 20, of New Town, as the sole occupant. Both the vehicle and the stolen purse were recovered and returned to their owner.

Nelson was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, a Class B felony with a value between $10,000 and $50,000, theft of property valued between $1,000 and $10,000, a Class C felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia (excluding marijuana). He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ward County Jail.

The Minot Police Department expressed its appreciation to the Ward County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in resolving the case.
