Flood control funding approved in Cedar Rapids

Three years before Minot flooded, Cedar Rapids set the bar for community changing events. Since then, the fight for federal money has been ongoing. Now, ten years after the water receded, the federal money has been approved to flow in. The cost of the project to protect downtown Cedar Rapids is estimated at $750 million; the federal government is committing $117 million to the effort. The remainder will be paid by the state of Iowa and local contributions.
