Officers from the Minot Police Department responded to a crash involving a cyclist and a pickup truck at the intersection of 8th St. NE and 7th Ave. NE at 5:14 p.m. on October 24. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and provided medical assistance.
According to the investigation, a 14-year-old male cyclist was traveling westbound on 7th Ave. NE when he failed to stop and yield at the intersection, colliding with a northbound 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Witnesses reported that the cyclist attempted to brake, but the bicycle’s brakes appeared to be malfunctioning. The driver of the pickup truck tried to stop but was unable to avoid the collision.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was not cited. The cyclist received a written warning for failing to adhere to traffic rules that apply to bicycles.
The 14-year-old cyclist was initially transported to Trinity Hospital ER and later airlifted to Sanford Fargo for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Minot Police Department.
