We can say it this week and mean it both ways — Fairweather. It’s in the air and on exhibition. Don’t miss it. Also in today’s news, an easy look at the City Council agenda and sharp-tailed grouse are out — if you know where to find them — shaking a tail feather.

North Dakotans may soon get a clearer view of where their $12 billion Legacy Fund is invested. A bill passed unanimously by the Senate would create a dedicated website listing the fund’s holdings—an effort to make public information more accessible and transparent. While some investment details remain confidential due to contract limits, state officials say the new site could cut down on records requests and streamline oversight. Supporters say it’s about more than efficiency—it’s about knowing where your state’s money is, and what it supports.

HB 1319

A BILL for an Act to create and enact a new section to chapter 21-10 of the North Dakota Century Code, relating to a legacy fund disclosure website.

On This Day

On this day the world was getting together on health, President Eisenhour was worried about falling dominos, and IBM introduced a series big computers, literally. In 1949 Minot, we were going a little oil crazy, it was flooding, but school gymnasiums were a bargain… to bad we didn’t build a bunch of them 😉

On this day in 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) was established as a specialized agency of the United Nations, dedicated to promoting global health, combating diseases, and improving healthcare standards worldwide.

On this day in 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered his “Domino Theory” speech, articulating the belief that the fall of one country to communism would lead to the spread of communism to neighboring countries, influencing U.S. foreign policy during the Cold War.

On this day in 1964, IBM introduced the System/360, a revolutionary family of mainframe computers that set new standards for compatibility and performance, significantly impacting the development of the computer industry.

8th St. NW FLOOD

Why we published it: A reminder that Minot is a town that floods -- with the hopes that it helps keep people prepared. Also of note -- the time of the year. April is typically our month of highest risk, and part of what made the 2011 water year so remarkable is that it didn't peak until late June. Also, regulars to NW Minot will recognize the house in the background; it's still with us.

This structural steel building firm quoted to local board officials statistics showing that they will put up buildings of any length and width for about $3.50 a square foot complete with floor, insulation, decoration and ready to use. For a building 60x100 this would cost about $21,000, which is within reach of the schools.

Why we published it: Well, those days are gone.
