Wisconsin: GOAT Committee (State Version of DOGE) sent after local government diversity efforts

A newly formed Wisconsin Assembly committee, dubbed the GOAT Committee, is already making waves before even holding its first meeting. Vice Chair Rep. Shae Sortwell has launched an investigation into diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in local governments, requesting five years’ worth of records from cities across the state—many of them Democratic strongholds. The move has drawn pushback from Democratic committee members, who say they weren’t consulted and question the committee’s authority. As political tensions rise, the debate over DEI spending is becoming a new battleground in Wisconsin governance.

Why does this matter in North Dakota? Creation of a similar DOGE-like committee was approved by the ND House. It will be interesting to see if the ND Republican’s follow their Wisconsin colleagues into witch-hunt territory or keep the task force focused on efficiency.
