On this day in 1415, the Battle of Agincourt took place during the Hundred Years’ War, where English forces led by King Henry V achieved a decisive victory over the French. The battle is famous for the use of the English longbow and has been immortalized in Shakespeare’s play “Henry V.”
On this day in 1854, the Charge of the Light Brigade occurred during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. The ill-fated cavalry charge, led by British forces, became a symbol of bravery and military blunder, famously depicted in Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem “The Charge of the Light Brigade.”
On this day in 1944, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, one of the largest naval battles in history, began during World War II. Allied forces, primarily from the United States and Australia, fought against the Imperial Japanese Navy, resulting in a decisive Allied victory that significantly weakened Japanese naval power.
