On this day in 1793, Marie Antoinette, the former Queen of France, was executed by guillotine in Paris during the French Revolution. Her death marked the fall of the French monarchy and the rise of the revolutionary government.

On this day in 1923, The Walt Disney Company was founded by Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney in Los Angeles, California. The company would go on to become one of the largest and most influential entertainment conglomerates in the world.

On this day in 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis began when U.S. President John F. Kennedy was informed of Soviet missile installations in Cuba. The 13-day confrontation brought the world to the brink of nuclear war before a peaceful resolution was reached.
