Red Cross Distributes Food During Depression; Rumors Abound

“A good many ridiculous reports have been circulated regarding the salaries received by Red Cross workers. Not one of the local Red Cross workers is receiving a cent of pay. In fact no rent is charged for the local Red Cross headquarters on Central avenue. Not one of the township key men and women are receiving a cent and in fact they are furnishing their own cars and gasoline in traveling over the township carrying on their fine work.”

Red Cross Distributes Food During Depression; Rumors Abound

That’s a Hell of a Story!

The family were standing along the river bench near the timber, the two ladies and the little girl about 100 feet from Mr. Larson when the deer came over a knoll. With hardly a moment’s hesitation it made a flying lunge at the group. The first impact knocked Mrs. Larson and her daughter to the ground, where it tried to gore them with its antlers. Mrs. Larson received a deep gash on her thigh and other cuts on her arms and the little daughter received a cut on her hand and on her leg. After the first lunge the deer got its antlers tangled in Mrs. Larson’s coat, so the attack was somewhat hampered by the time Mr. Larson got to the scene. He grabbed it by the horns and held it while his wife and daughter crawled out from under its flying hooves and antlers. He told them to run to the car, while he held the deer; this they did.
