New Governor Has Opportunity to Solve the Tax Problem
“Langer already is studying the tax problem. He is reading the report of the tax-survey commission from ‘cover to cover’ and will search out such other information as he can with a view of proposing to the next legislature a sound and workable tax policy which will reduce the burden on the people of the state without impairing essential public service. His pet hope is that he will be able to reduce the automobile license fees.”

Why We Chose It
Langer was a colorful character who’s featured in this column numerous times already. But unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like he “solved” the tax problem. There’s at least a little of it left for us to chew on.
Police Chief Gets His Man
“The facts of this case began when John R. Sauccerman alias Bob Bailey held up and murdered Elmer Evans, taxi driver in Pineville, Kentucky, then took Evans identification and his 1934 Chevrolet sedan. Sauccerman, now using the name of Elmer Evans came to Minot and sold the car to R. A. Garner, who gave Evans a $25 down payment and promised to forward $175 to him at St. Walberg, Sask., Canada.”
The Ward County Independent, November 12, 1936
Why We Chose It
