Ski Jumping in Minot!
The ski runway is to be 5 1/2 feet wide and will be 206 feet long. The ground dimension of the slide will be 180 feet. At its highest point the structure will be 100 feet. The take off will be 15 feet from the top of the hill and the total vertical descent from the top of the slide to the base of the hill will be 200 feet. It has been estimated that jumps of 175 to 200 feet will be possible.
The Ward County Independent, November 10, 1932
Why We Chose It
When the Northern plains give you winter and your town claims a famed ski jumper you better build a ski jump!
Egg Prices On The Rise
“Local conditions have worked to exaggerate at both ends the spread between last year’s and this year’s egg prices in Minot, according to local dealers. Last year eggs remained relatively plentiful throughout the winter and were cheap. With in the last month this year there has been a decided upward trend locally.”
The Ward County Independent, November 10, 1932
Why We Chose It
In today’s prices, that same dozen eggs would cost $6.90. Maybe the U.S. economy isn’t the worst its ever been?
We’re Noticing All This Flooding
“The fact that Mouse river is an international stream and that it is flood waters from Canada that are causing damage to Minot and other sections of the Mouse river valley, was stressed. It was pointed out that before Congress could authorize relief, the war department would have to make a survey and Congressman Sinclair is introducing a bill providing for such a survey. The result of such a survey would be to provide recommendation to Congress for relief.”
The Ward County Independent, November 10, 1927
Why We Chose It
The mostly meek but sometimes mighty Mouse has been creating challenges for Minot since the beginning. Hopefully this investment in flood protection is the measure that gives this community safety from the rising water once and for all.
