The prairie doesn’t force us to know and understand the dangers of an avalanche. It puts us at more risk when we do venture into the mountains because we don’t live with the threat on a daily basis. But if you’re headed sledding or backcountry skiing, then you have a responsibility to your party and family to know the basics.
