Bismarck testing bulk garbage pickup for residential areas

In Bismarck, starting January 2025, the city is rolling out a pilot program to make getting rid of those bulky items a bit easier. You know that old couch or worn-out mattress that doesn’t quite fit in your regular garbage? Now there’s a plan for that. With new trucks hitting the streets, curbside bulk pickup will be available for a $20 plus landfill fees and must be scheduled in advance.

Why is this news in Minot? We have twice-a-year bulk pick-up programs but the service does not cost us anything extra. It’s worth noting what other places are doing as municipalities have a tendency to copy one another, especially when it comes to justifying changes in service level or cost savings.
