BisMan Community Food Cooperative permanently closing; why it matters in Minot

They gave it a six-year go, but it’s at the end. The directors of the Bisman Food Cooperative are closing the doors for good. They could not find a sustainable operating model. Blake Nicholson and David Velazquez with the Bismarck Tribune have the full story.

Why does it matter in Minot? One of the common ideas mentioned for Minot is a downtown grocery store or market. It’s an obvious need if we want to see the number of downtown residents grow (we should). But just because some think it’s a good idea, doesn’t mean a business will be an easy success. In Bismarck, they’ve proved just the opposite. And in the end, the lessons they learned might be valuable to seeing some business model succeed in Minot.
