News releases from the Minot Police department provide some timely warnings on fireworks and presence of counterfeit money working through the community. Full news releases are below.
No Fireworks in the City
With the Fourth of July approaching, the Minot Police Department Crime Prevention Unit reminds people of Minot of the following fire code adopted under city ordinance:
Fireworks Unlawful in the City of Minot:
Sec. 13-40 (11)
- It shall be unlawful for any person within the city limits to possess, store, to offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail, use or explode any fireworks within the city of Minot.
- Fine: $150.00
It is important to follow this law as violations cause emergency personnel to respond to unnecessary noise, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct complaints. Hot weather and dry conditions also increase the possibility of unnecessary fires and fire calls.
Counterfeit Money in the Area
The Minot Police Department would like to warn the people of Minot and the businesses operating in the area of a string of counterfeit bills being passed in the Minot area. Over the past 2 weeks, there have been multiple cases of counterfeit money being passed at businesses. Many of these have been $100 bills. At first glance, the bill is similar in appearance, but if the time is taken to check the watermarks and other indicators, it’s obviously not true currency. Counterfeit markers can also be used to help determine if the money received is US currency or counterfeit.
