If you’ve spent any time on The Minot Voice, you know that a lot of what we’re all about is presenting ideas and information that matter to Minot. Our town is going through growing pains and recovering from a disaster at the same time. How we do things, the decisions we make, the outcomes we achieve depend a lot on the ideas and information we’re exposed to. In other words, ideas matter.
So with that in mind, I’m excited to tell you about a Minot organization with a mission of spreading new ideas intended to positively impact our world and community. If you haven’t heard of TED, it’s probably because you don’t hang out on the Internet all day. You’re excused; good for you!
Here’s the quick intro from the TED website:
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues.
One of the other cool things about TED is they’re expanding their reach into the small corners of the world and communities like Minot. This is where I introduce you to TEDxMinot and its lead organizer Ashley Eurich.
In its third year, TEDxMinot aims to connect individuals within our community who want to impact Minot in positive ways. How does it happen? TEDxMinot hosts events featuring speakers with “ideas worth spreading.” And from that point forward, the process of realizing those ideas becomes a community collaboration.
And here’s why TEDxMinot and Ashley are important to The Minot Voice. Whether you know it or not, this website is an experiment in giving journalism and news back to people like you. The Minot Voice is open to you, to share your ideas, concerns, Minot-worthy news and any information in need of a Minot audience.
But I can tell you that all day and it probably won’t sink in. What The Minot Voice needs most are people and organizations to start using it towards that end. That’s why I’m excited to have a commitment from another Minot-vested organization co-aligned with our mission of spreading better ideas and fostering community discussions.
