On This Day | A Christmas Truce

This cruel war may cease before long. The Pope wants a truce during Christmas and we propose a long one. This is our scheme. On New Year’s day let the soldiers in all the armies and throw down their guns and start for home. The generals would curse and tear their hair, but what could they do. Let the soldiers say “We are sick of this murder, and if you officers like the business, draw your swords and sail in. As for us, we have enough.” Cut this out and send to the Kaiser.

Why We Chose It
