Dr. F.E. Wheelon, head of the First District Health unit, reports that school children of two townships in Burke county have no dental decay. He is going to check the water supply in that community. In 1934 in Crosby a deep water well was not put into operation because it contained fluoride of a little more than one part per million (which may be acceptable on the basis of the evidence since 1934 developed) which may indicate the presence of fluorides in good quantity in Burke county water.

Why We Chose It
This was the moment we were deciding whether to flouridate the water or not. We did it. Now, as a country, we’re circling back to this decision. It’s interesting that Burke county may have been a naturally occurring research experiment from which to draw some light conclusions. Also noteworthy, the arguments against fluoridation were present and articulately carried.
