“Something unusual and very rare in North Dakota occurred during the start of the snow storm a couple of weeks ago. Moisture in the dry bottoms of Oak Creek caused what is known in the east and south as jack o’ lanterns. Many living in the south part of town report seeing huge balls of fire shoot up from the creek bottom in the air then burst causing a light- ning-like light. One young man who had to walk considerable distance to his home became alarmed over the phenomena, not knowing what was the cause. Others were afraid to mention it for fear of being accused of ‘seeing things’.”
