Highway Safety Drives the Conversation
“This column is going to be devoted to SAFETY this week.”
The Ward County Independent, November 6, 1958
Why We Chose It
Highway safety has been a challenge since the moment we began driving cars. This column was born from a particularly tragic set of events that clearly had Minot both talking and mourning.
New Dam Proving a Tourist Attraction
“During the 1958 tourist season Garrison Dam listed visitors from 42 of the 48 states of the union and from 10 foreign nations. States not represented on the registration log at the East Overlook concession were Virginia, Mississippi, Maine, Vermont, Delaware, South Carolina and Massachusetts. Foreign countries represented were Canada, Pakistan, Cuba, England, Germany, Norway, Australia, Japan, Spain and Lebanon.”
The Ward County Independent, November 6, 1958
Why We Chose It
The Garrison Dam remains a remarkable achievement in civil engineering. And it seems at the time of it’s unveiling, we recognized it as such. But perhaps that’s less so today?
Minot State Adds Art Major
“Mrs. Hartnett has been a member of the MSTC faculty, teaching in the art department since 1927. She graduated with the second class of this school receiving a one year certificate, received her standard certificate and eventually a B.S degree in art education at the University of Minnesota and a master of fine arts from the University of Oregon.”
The Ward County Independent, November 6, 1958
Why We Chose It
The legacy of Mrs. Hartnett continues to this day, and the building named in her honor has recently had an extreme make-over and continues as home to any of Minot State’s art programs.
