Election Interference Was Real

Letters purporting to be written by me or by my authority, making any recommendations or suggestions in regard to the division of Ward county are totally false and fraudulent. I have not at any time attempted, directly or indirectly to interfere with the question of county division, which is before the people of Ward county, and which they are well able to settle for themselves without interference. I wish to make this denial unqualified and emphatic.

Why We Chose It

116 years later and this issue — of election interference — is still present among us. Unscrupulous and self-interested actors have always been among us. It seems likely they always will be.

Shooting Off Your Foot For a Buck

The Minot Daily Optic of last Friday, ran ten advertisements for commission merchants of Minneapolis and Duluth, who are soliciting business among the farmers. “Ship your own grain and save money” is the advice given in each of the ads. The local elevators will probably appreciate the efforts of the Optic to divert business from its natural course, and after all, is the farmer really ahead, if he does his own shipping? Consider his time in loading, risks, etc., it would be much better for him to weigh the proposition well before cutting out the elevators, especially when he has been getting a square deal.

Why We Chose It

It’s interesting. Minot had so much local news at this point, that the newspapers felt obliged to write on not only the goings on of the community, but also their competitors. Talk about a vigorous local news environment!

A 24 Page Paper

The Independent last week got out a 24 page paper, the largest in the history of this concern. We feel more than grateful to the wide awake business men who appreciate the value of this advertising medium. We doubt if there ever was a 24 page weekly paper gotten out, as a regular edition, in the state before.

Why We Chose It

It’s a sign of the “Magic” in Minot’s early years.
