On this day in 1789, the United States Congress passed the Judiciary Act, which established the federal judiciary and created the Supreme Court, along with district and circuit courts. This act laid the foundation for the American legal system.

On this day in 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce the desegregation of Central High School. This action was in response to resistance against the Supreme Court’s ruling in Brown v. Board of Education.

On this day in 1991, Nirvana released their landmark album “Nevermind,” which included the hit single “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The album’s success brought grunge music into the mainstream and marked a significant shift in popular music.
