The Ward County Sheriff’s Department has received numerous calls from citizens concerning a phone scam going around the community the last two days. Citizens are being contacted by an unknown male claiming to be a Sgt. Ryan Summers from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department. The scammer has even used a computer generated number to make it appear that the call is coming from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department. The scammer claiming to be the Deputy states that the citizen had been issued a jury summons, failed to show up, and now warrants for arrest have been issued. In some calls, the scammer has even listed a Judge by name as the person signing the Warrants. The scammer is requesting the citizens go to get bit coin to pay for the bond on the warrants.
The Ward County Sheriff’s Department will never ask for any type of payment over the phone and in the case of any warrant, we would have you call our main office number at 701-857- 6500. Please remember that the scammers are very convincing and may use names of actual Deputies or court personnel that they find on our websites. Do not provide any personal information to anyone on the phone that you suspect is involved in a scam and call the Ward County Sheriff’s Department or your local law enforcement with any questions.
