High rates of harassment and threats may deter entry into local politics

American politics has gotten nasty the past few years. You’ve likely seen examples on social media – people yelling at meetings, making threats, even violence. For a time, local government was a last bastion of civility, but it seems that cultural barrier is also erroding. It’s gotten to the point where elected leaders and candidates are second guessing their decisions to participate in public service.

It’s an existential threat to the survival of our nation and principles; if we cannot get people to serve in leadership positions, our future is bleak. Dan Farmer, Nathan Lee, and Joel Day with CivicPulse have the full story.
