A shockingly prescient 1970 mission statement for the precursor to NPR’s ‘Fresh Air’

Do you get the feeling that we — as a culture — are becoming more tribalized? More prone to only listen and support those who agree with us or who we feel are a member of our clan? You’re not alone; it’s also not the first time we’ve been through this.

The image below was from a grant application for a new show called ‘Fresh Air’. The hope was that better media could help change the national dialogue. It’s a reminder that we’ve been here before, and clearly, we have some lessons that didn’t take. For additional perspective on our new-again national crisis, check out this article from The Current.
